Homemade tomato salsa made with heart-healthy tomatoes, onions, garlic, and peppers. These ingredients also benefit the heart by helping to lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
This homemade tomato salsa is high in antioxidant properties as well. One of these being the anti-oxidant nutrient of lycopene in the tomatoes. Research has shown that the high lycopene content in tomatoes may help lower LDL (unhealthy) cholesterol, and keep blood from clotting which may help lower stroke risk.
The antioxidants in the onions, garlic, and peppers seem to help lower unhealthy cholesterol. The onions may also help reduce blood pressure and inflammation. Chronic inflammation has been linked to many diseases including heart disease. Also, the antioxidant-rich garlic and peppers help lower cholesterol as well.
